What Clients Have to Say

Melissa Kraus, Palo Alto

“He is very professional but so casual in nature that he is able to take really unique photos. He can blend in with the family and capture the personality of the family without you noticing it.”

Monica Bannan, San Francisco

“I kind of expected all the pictures to look like the last session, but they were completely new and insightful in a way that you could tell years had passed… that we were all older and the children were growing.”

Lauren Lyon, San Francisco

“His long track record and deep level of experience really showed while he was taking the pictures and certainly in the result. These are family heirlooms we want to pass down to our children.”

“We really value our time with Joshua over the last twenty years.”

“He originally photographed our wedding and when we went on to have three kids and he photographed each of our kids and also did a series of family photography during that time. Most recently he photographed my family as our youngest went off to college, so he's really seen our family through many different phases.”

“There's a huge difference between your iPhone and a professional, and Joshua has a beautiful professional eye that no one can capture.”

“He gets to know the personality of every individual and the whole family as a unit as well and their specific dynamic which is really unique. He spends a lot of time with the family and as a result blend in and becomes just another person who is there, rather than a photographer.”

“Joshua is great with kids; he is funny and easy and flexible and makes them feel like they're at a comedy show more than getting their photographs taken. My kids don't necessarily love getting their photos taken as the victim of many years for me and my iPhone and he just has such fun with them that he makes it really easy.”

“Having just sent a kid to college I am reminded of how fast childhood actually goes and to now look back on the baby photos they're remarkable… it’s really special to capture that time in a person's life and that time in a family arch… Having photos that capture someone’s early life is remarkable, and I treasure each one… Not everybody lives at home anymore in my house and so I know that time moves on and so to have these family photos is really meaningful.”

“The archival quality of the photos is notable and really important to me because you can feel the difference, you can see the difference. My kids will treasure these photos in 30 years from now.”

“He is an utmost professional but so casual in nature that he is able to take really unique photos. He can blend in with the family and capture the personality of the family without you noticing it.

“What I really admire about Joshua is his philanthropic arm, and it's because of that philanthropic arm that I was exposed to his photography. He donates photography packages to nonprofits and schools. I'm the president of the board of directors for Dress for Success San Francisco, he donated to our holiday event, and I bought the package.”

Capturing natural moments and natural expressions is really important to us.

He only does black and white which is amazing. Not a lot of people do that… at the time he might have been shooting film, but he does the printing himself. He has a dark room and because both of us have developed prints ourselves like we know the value of a machine not doing it but a human adjusting it and printing it right and then we were super impressed.”

“So, Joshua calls us in to go through the proofs to ultimately decide which ones we want and make the purchase. My husband's kind of snotty about photography so he was still a little skeptical, but we sat down and he ran it through the proofs on the screen. They were beautiful, stunning pictures but we liked so many of them but the bill was getting higher and higher… they're not cheap— they’re works of art.”

“They were really precious pictures, what he drew out of our children are expressions that we see out of our children in our everyday life but are rarely captured in photos. We hung them in our house and every day I walk by them and think, oh, they're so beautiful.”

They are incredible in their own way and yes some of the pictures were in the exact same spots as the first shoot but they were completely different. So yeah I'm a fan, and even my husband was.”

“I feel like Joshua captures the whimsy and the closeness of our family and when I look at the photos I feel a great sense of pride in achievement that my husband and I have been able to make this family like this.”

“For each of their individual pictures he was able to capture their character, there's a twinkle in a mysteriousness in his eyes and you can see my youngest is silly and outspoken. There's this energy that you feel as brothers. There's a seriousness and a bond between them that comes out through the pictures, which I love.

“My parents went to a run of the mill photographer like JCPenney or Sears and so those are formal family photos. I do wish that I had more photo journalistic pictures of my whole life you know, they’re so valuable.”

It makes me tear up and it makes me feel like I'm doing something to create like a legacy for the family that's beautiful.

I would recommend him because they're not just family photographs— they’re art— they're heirloom quality you could pass them down.”

“What an artist he is. I knew how special of an opportunity this would be for our family and that we were willing to invest in it. He takes such beautiful pictures that really capture the essence of the children at that time in their lives.”

“To know that the photos are of a higher quality and are behind archival quality glass I felt comfortable and confident making the investment. His long track record and deep level of experience really showed while he was taking the pictures and certainly in the result. These are family heirlooms we want to pass down to our children.”

We feel really warm and full of love when we see the photos on the wall… they show what a close and affectionate family we are.”
